Choosing a Bistro Table and Patio Chairs for your Deck, Patio, or Poolside
Before you purchase a bistro table set for your patio, you need to consider the answers to a couple of key questions.
Â
How will you use the furniture?
If you merely need a small table on which to rest drinks or food, suntan lotion, or sunglasses, then a bistro table set would be a good choice. However, if you plan to conduct work outside, and shuffle a lot of papers or books, it might be too small for your needs.
You might also consider planning where you will put the furniture based on its use. Bistro table sets work well both inside your home on a porch and outside on a patio or deck. Inside, you might choose a black wrought iron set for your porch. Outside, you might consider placing a white set in a clearing in your garden, especially if you have a pond or fountain as a focal point.
How many chairs do you need?
Calculate how many people might sit at your bistro table at any one time. You can buy arrangements to seat groups of various sizes, however, the idea is to create an “intimate†conversation area for two to four people at most. Groups larger than four people require that you buy a full size patio table or outdoor dining table to seat everyone comfortably.

Bistro Table Materials
The most popular bistro table sets are made of wrought iron. The iron is often shaped into fanciful designs that are most evident in the legs and the seat back of the chairs. Wrought iron is also popular because it truly captures the essence of Parisian styling whereas wood or aluminum furniture does not.
Most wrought iron patio furniture is slated to be “rust free†or “rust repellent.†The truth is, any iron can grow rust if nicks, scratches and scrapes are left unattended or untreated. Usually a small dose of Rustoleum paint or primer on your wrought iron table or chairs will solve the rust issue for an entire season.
Shopping for Bistro Tables
Bistro table sets are available from a wide variety of suppliers, both in stores like WalMart and online. There are not any “big name†patio furniture brands to decide between, so instead, focus on choosing furniture that satisfies the situation you are trying to fill. Any furniture you choose will be high quality and, if properly cared for, will last you many wonderful years of enjoyment.
