How to Pick a Hammock Chair for Your Deck, Porch, or Patio
Like a porch swing, you attach the hammock chair to an overhead support. Inside, this would mean hanging the chair from one of the crossbeams of your house or porch. Outside, this would mean hanging the chair from a trick branch of a strong tree or the crossbeam of a covered deck.
If you would rather not install a hook in an overhead support, or if you don’t have an available tree, you might consider purchasing or building a stand for your hammock chair. Usually these stands are made of thick tubes of metal welded together for their strength and their ability to hold large amounts of weight. Whether you buy online, or from your local home improvement center, you can always find an appropriate stand to purchase in combination with your chair.
Styles of Hammock Chairs
Hammock chairs are available in a wide variety of styles. Not only are there versions that look like suspended chairs, but there are also versions with suspended footrests, too. In essence, they create the impression of a floating chaise lounge. This way you can truly relax while floating just inches above the ground!
Hammock chairs are usually made of either woven yarn or canvas and wood. Woven yarn versions tend to be available in white or off-white colors, but the tie-dyed look is also quite popular. Woven yarn versions tend to be very soft and comfortable, creating a “womb-like†enclosure around you.
Alternatively, there are models that are a combination of canvas and wood. Wood is used in areas of the chair that connect to the suspension rope and canvas is used in the areas where your body rests. These canvas and wood models are usually available in solid colors like dark blue, hunter green, and beige.
Consider a Hammock Chair
As you equip your deck, patio, or porch with outdoor furniture, consider adding a comfortable hammock chair to your collection. Remember, if you don’t want to hang the chair from an overhead support, invest in a strong hammock stand, too. Choose either woven yarn or canvas and wood depending on your decorating and comfort preferences. Once installed, your chair will become a wonderful place to relax, read a book, or even take a nap on a beautiful day!
